Cipro is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. This means it works against many different types of bacteria. However, many bacteria have grown resistant to Cipro. Resistant bacteria can no longer be treated with a certain drug.
Do not take Ciprofloxacin with dairy products such as milk or yogurt, or with calcium-fortified juice. You may eat or drink these products with your meals, but do not use them alone when taking ciprofloxacin. Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection.
You may take this medicine with or without food. However, Cipro XR tablets should be taken with a main meal, preferably the evening meal. Drink plenty of fluids while you are using this medicine. Drinking extra water will help prevent some unwanted effects of Ciprofloxacin.
This medication is used to treat kidney or bladder (urinary tract) infections. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections.
